A tabernacle is, in a Christian context, a locked, fixes box in which the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. Tabernacles are found in Catholic, Orthodox and some Anglican churches.
As they are seen to hold the truly present Body of Jesus Christ, tabernacles are treated with reverence. They are normally placed either near the high altar, on a side altar dedicated to this use, or in a side chapel dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament.
