Santa Maria Porta Paradisi, also known as Santa Maria in Augusta is a church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pictures of the church at Wikimedia Commons.[1]

History

The date when the church was first built is uncertain. It was rebuilt in 1523 by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger.

Exterior

The marble relief of the Madonna and Child above the entrance is by Andrea Sansovino.

The funerary monument of Matteo Caccia from 1645 is by Cosimo Fancelli, and that of Antonio de Burgos from 1526 is by Baldassarre Peruzzi.

Special Note

Beware of the building just north of the church, on the same side of the street. It looks just like another church, but is not. It is the street frontage of a hospital ward.
