San Francesco d'Assisi a Lunghezzina is a 21st century public chapel at Via Guardiagrele in the new suburb of Lunghezzina. This is in the Lunghezza zone.

The dedication is to St Francis of Assisi.

History

A new, formally planned neighbourhood called Lunghezzina was laid out south-east of Lunghezza in the first decade of the 21st century (the name comes from a farmstead some distance to the north-east).

In response, a chapel was opened at the south-west corner of the layout. This is where the Via Guardiagrele begins, although the chapel has no street number (yet).

An oddity is that the locality is part of the territory of the diocese of Tivoli, but is being administered by the parish of Santa Maria di Loreto a Castelverde which is in the diocese of Rome.

Appearance

The chapel is a simple prefabricated structure on a rectangular plan, more attractive than the usual specimens of this type. It has five bays, and the concrete slabs in between the support piers are rendered in a pale orange. The roof is in a striking pale purple colour.

Liturgy

Mass is celebrated on Wednesdays at 18:00, and on Sundays and Solemnities at 10:30.
