History[]

This chapel was built as part of a large convent complex in 1925, for the Sisters, Adorers of the Precious Blood which is a contemplative congregation founded in Canada in 1861.

The monastery was the Roman headquarters until 1961, when the sisters withdrew and sold the property to the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions.

The chapel is on the parish ofSanta Maria Regina Pacis a Monte Verde, but has no public ministry.

Appearance[]

The neo-Baroque façade of the chapel gives the impression of being a church.

It is in yellowish-grey stone with white details, and is approached by a flight of steps. A tall entrance porch has an arched interior enclosing a tympanum, and a gabled roof supported by a pair of round Corinthian pilasters. Above this is a statue of Our Lady in a round-headed niche also with two round Corinthian pilasters, and flanked by a pair of tall round-headed windows. Above her is a round window set in a tondo, and flanking the entire façade is a pair of gigantic square Corinthian pilasters. The ornate gabled roofline has a frieze of small arches on corbels under it.
