The Cosmatesque style, or opus alexandrinum, is a style of decoration typical of Medieval Italy, and especially found in Rome and Latium. The name comes from the Cosmati, a group of marble craftsmen who created their art by using marble fragments taking from ancient ruins and arranging them in geometrical patterns.

Cosmatesque decoration was often used on floors (which are then often referred to as pavements), but is also found on walls, altars, tabernacles and other parts of a church.

Some of the finest exampled in Rome can be seen in San Lorenzo fuori le Mura, San Saba, San Paolo fuori le Mura, Santa Maria in Aracoeli, and Santa Maria in Cosmedin.
